Does insurance cover infertility consultation?

Question by Megan N: Does insurance cover infertility consultation?
When I go to my OB, or any other doctor I have to pay a co-pay of $ 30 and then the rest goes to insurance. Should it be the same way for an infertility specialist?

Best answer:

Answer by Tina has Twins
Not necessarily.

Where do they live? – it is more about where you live and what your state mandates. MOST insurance companies do not cover anything related to fertility. Currently ONLY 15 states in the US mandate some sort of fertility coverage and not all cover all treatments for infertiltiy. For example, I live in Massachusetts and our treatments including IVF were covered 100% with just our co-pays through BC/BS Massachusetts but BC/BS in Florida covers nothing.

I recommend that you contact Fertility Life lines – they have a free hotline that you can call and have someone help you to better understand your current coverage and to do an analysis for you. They explained my plan to me in easy to understand terms.

Good Luck & best wishes.

PS – do NOT respond to anyone who says “I recall my plan covers it” and go to this random website for a quote . . . it is a scam, identity theft.

Has anyone ever had trouble getting pregnant while using a infertility specialist?

Question by mickey: Has anyone ever had trouble getting pregnant while using a infertility specialist?
This is my second infertility Dr. that I am using. I don’t produce enough follicles. I have had every kind of test. And they can’t find out why. The Dr. suggested using donor eggs. Anyone ever use donor eggs, or have had my problem?

Answer by tammictal
My husband and I tried for two years. We tried everything Dr’s, test but couldn’t find anything. We booked ourselves into an adoption agency and gave up. Within three months we were pregnant. The doctors feel it was cause we took the pressure out of it.

You could always do a Google search for your area, but the best thing to do is to get a referral from your OB or other women you might know who have been to see one. They can tell you a lot more than a website.
