Question by Ms. Sunshine: seeking helpful information on affordable IVF?
I had 2 tubal pregnancies; due to blocked tubes, 2 months apart, which both resulted in my tubes being taken. From what I have been told I can only have a child using IVF. I have been researching online and it seems to be VERY expensive for an average couple. I have no children of my own and my husband missed out on his daughters early years, so we were really excited about having a baby together. I have baby fever really bad since I turned 33 last year. I dont want to wait too long. How can this become something affordable for us…are there other options…any advise is helpful …thanks

Question by Spice: IVF..Insurance?
What type of insurance covers the cost for IVF?
Best answer:
Answer by Doodlestuff Health insurance. It depends on the policy, company and the state. For instance, Blue Cross/Blue Shield will pay for a limited amount of IVF with an individual policy in my state, but many employers have axed it in their policies because employees don’t want to pay more for their insurance. Blue Cross/Blue Shield won’t pay for it at all in some states.
BTW, the insurance plan I have won’t cover the meds which is a lot of the cost. Be for you run to purchase this insurance, keep in mind that you have to have the insurance for 18 months before IVF or pregnancy coverage begins. That is to prevent people from just getting the insurance to get that coverage and then dropping it, sticking policy holders with the bill.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is being used increasingly at the Fertility Institutes to dramatically improve the chance of a successful IVF pregnancy in couples where prior IVF failures have remained unexplained. It has been estimated that over half of all IVF failures are not able to be explained by an apparent problem with embryo “quality”. For many couples however, this statistic is quite misleading. Most IVF centers look very closely at the appearance of embryos under the microscope as they attempt to determine a “good” or “high quality” embryo from those of lesser quality…
IVF Success Following PGD
Single cycle IVF success rates (the chance of becoming pregnant)in our program can be raised significantly* when 2 or 3 embryos known to be chromosomally normal are transferred. The chance of healthy pregnancy may double when known genetically normal embryos are utilized. Implantation rates (the chance of each single embryo becoming a gestation) can also be raised greatly with
