Why do infertile Christian couples go to fertility clinics?

Question by Darth Garcia: Why do infertile Christian couples go to fertility clinics?
After all, if the couple is infertile it must be the will of God. Why would a Christian couple want to violate the will of God and go to a fertility clinic where doctors have developed techniques to force a sperm and egg to join when it is clearly God’s will that the couple should remain childless. Why don’t they adopt one of those unwanted babies they are always talking about instead of going to a fertility clinic and creating litters of four, five, six, or even seven children at once? Where is their faith in the will of God?
Comparing a fertility clinic to regular medical treatment is flawed. Going to a doctor, you’re treating someone who is already alive. Going to a fertility clinic, you’re creating new life, very possibly passing on the genetic flaws to multiple children who then will have to go to fertility clinics when they want to have childern.

And not insignificantly, it is not merely ONE egg that gets fertilized. Dozens of eggs get fertilized, and most end up “aborted.”

That will depend on the insurance company. My health insurance pays a percentage of it, but only like 2 times.

What is the difference in success rates of 3 day transfer vs 5 day transfer of IVF embryos?

Question by Mother of twin boys: What is the difference in success rates of 3 day transfer vs 5 day transfer of IVF embryos?
We did 3 day transfer and I’m reading everywhere that day 5 is better. I am 27 year old female with PCOS in my first IVF cycle. We have been having trouble getting pregnant because my husband works out of town and timing was off.

Answer by realityshowjunkie
You will get some here who say a 3 day transfer is best and some who say a 5 day transfer is best. My clinic finds that your odds increase 10% when doing a 5dt. Every RE will tell you different when it comes to transfer days. Some clinics argue there is no difference if all things are they same between the groups who do 3 and 5dt (Age, embryo quality, number fertilized). This article explains “Under natural conditions, the embryo remains in the Fallopian tube until the fifth day of development (blastocyst stage). The uterine environment on day 3 is not the same as the fallopian tubes. When sequential culture systems are employed to grow the embryos to the blastocyst stage, the conditions in the laboratory more closely resemble the Fallopian tubes. Therefore, the embryos are better off in the lab for day 4-5 of development.”

http://www.sharedjourney.com/articles/3vs5.html Keep in mind that there are other studies that say just the opposite!

On another forum I belong to I know some who would never consider doing a 5dt and say they believe that the sooner you get the embryos back to you, the better. Those who do a 3dt get pregnant all the time!

You are young! You’ve got some great quality embryos transferred back to you! Things are looking good!!!

I don’t know about fertility clinics in PA – but I can provide you with more info on insurance:

As to insurance – it is not so much about the insurance company as the state that you live in, where your employer is located etc . . . Employers and insurance companies tend to offer the minimum. Currently 15 states in the US mandate some sort of fertility coverage be provided by insurance companies in that state. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania is not one of them . . .

I also recommend that you contact Fertility Life lines – they have a free hotline that you can call and have someone help you to better understand your coverage and to do an analysis for you. They were great – gave them my policy info and they researched it, got me all of the info on what was and was not covered and explained it to me:

Capital One also offers health care loans for fertility treatments – I have a few friends who used them without issue:

From going through this personally, I have also found that most fertility clinics have someone on staff who specializes in navigating the insurance, paperwork and finding ways to help you pay including clinical studies and payment plans.

Good luck!
